Danica Patrick Happy Off The NASCAR Racetrack With Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Open to Marriage?

Dec 03, 2013 10:59 AM EST | Matt Mercuro

NASCAR driver Danica Patrick has had an interesting year.

During her 2012 exit interviews, she left out the fact she was divorcing her husband of the last seven years. Soon after, the news got out and just two months later she revealed she was dating fellow driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr, according to the Associated Press.

Since the divorce was revealed, Patrick has completed her first full NASCAR season and became the first woman to earn the pole position at the Daytona 500. Yet despite all that, Patrick was mainly asked this week about if she was engaged or carrying Stenhouse's child.

"Pregnant? No. I can promise you not," Patrick said, according to AP. "The other one? I don't know. I'm the girl. It could be never, it could be tomorrow."

Patrick did confirm that she is open to getting married again if she felt it was with the right person.

"I would, absolutely. I love love," Patrick said. "But if I'm getting married is not a question I know the answer to. Should we go get Ricky and you can ask him yourself?"

For most of her IndyCar Series career, Patrick could be described as well-guarded or cold by the media. The person seen appearing in "GoDaddy" commercials would disappear on the racetrack or during interviews.

Patrick spent five seasons driving for Michael Andretti in the IndyCar Series, but after competing in a few NASCAR events in 2010, Patrick left IndyCar behind for good in 2012. Andretti has followed her career since leaving however, and notices a big change in Patrick since she left her husband.

"Now that her husband's out of there...he was not a good influence on her, I can tell you that," Andretti said, according to AP. "That's when things went south with us when he started getting involved. He was very controlling. Had her think in funny ways. She was getting out of control. Her head was getting so big. You just couldn't talk to her. I'm hoping she's coming back down to Earth a little bit."

When asked if dating Stenhouse has changed her at all, Patrick responded that she listens to country music more than she did before.

Patrick's taste in music has changed so much she will co-host the American Country Awards with Trace Adkins on Dec. 10.

"I'd say I have a lot more fun doing a lot of different things," Patrick said. "There's a lot more things that I've tried for the first time this year and I'm open to doing, whether it's going skeet shooting or learning how to play golf. The fun we've had having our families here on the weekend, just having everybody stay on the buses and be with us. It's just been a great year."

Patrick finished 27th in the final Sprint Cup standings, losing the rookie competition to Stenhouse, who finished 19th this season, according to ESPN. Patrick finished on the lead lap in only 12 of 36 races.
