A father was arrested on Thanksgiving Day after supposedly leaving his 2-month-old son alone in a car outside a store.

Haider Hassan Khudhair Darwash, 34, was booked on a felony child neglect charge on Nov. 28, according to the Associated Press.

The incident took place at around 5:30 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.

Trooper Edy Rivera was working an off-duty detail at a local Best Buy in the Waterford Lakes shopping center when he was approached by someone who told him there was a baby alone in a car.

"That was somebody who was concerned," FHP spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said to AP.

The boy was asleep in the back seat of the locked car when Rivera arrived at the vehicle. Rivera then went inside the store and announced on the public address system that he looking for the parents of the child or the owner of the vehicle.

After about 10 minutes went by, no one came forward, so the officer broke a window on the car, but "couldn't get the child to wake up," Montes said.

Paramedics were then called to aid Rivera, according to AP.

Shortly after rescue workers arrived, Darwash supposedly walked back to the car and identified himself as the father of the boy.

After being asked why the boy was alone, Darwash said he thought the mother had the child, according to the Highway Patrol account.

The mother was found standing in line at a store within the shopping center. She has not been charged as of press time.
