Sally Ann Okuly was killed while out on her first walk since a motorcycle crash left her unable to move for over six months.
Okuly, 59, who was also a cancer survivor and a mother of two, was hit by a 2007 Jeep Wrangler while going for a newspaper and a cup of coffee, according to The Inquisitr.
"The driver of the Jeep Wrangler did not yield the right of way and proceeded to turn left, striking the pedestrian. The pedestrian (Okuly) was transported to an area hospital where she died on Nov. 18 as a result of her injuries sustained during the collision," said Prince William County Police spokesman Jonathan Perok to the Woodbridge Patch.
The driver, Amanda Styles-Mays, 24, was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and reckless driving.
A memorial has been placed at the intersection where Okuly was hit, which reads: "In loving memory of our friend and neighbor, Sally Ann Okuly."
"One of her favorite things to do was to walk over across that street to the Wawa gas station. She's the most giving person ever," said Okuly's husband Bill.
The couple would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary this week, according to The Huffington Post.
