Lady Gaga Kicks Her '15 Joints a Day' Weed Habit with an 'Art Fast'

Lady Gaga smoked "15 joints a day" of marijuana to help with debilitating hip pain after surgery, she told Rolling Stone.

The 27-year-old pop star was heavily using weed until her friend Marina Abramovic helped her kick the habit through an "art fast" at Abramovic's house, Jezebel reported via Rolling Stone.

"It was a habit that eventually occurred when the pain got so bad with the hip," Gaga said. "I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself and then sleeping it off and then getting onstage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what the pain was."

For the fast, Abramovic told Gaga she would "eat only art" for three days.

"She said, 'OK, you're coming to my house. No television, no computer, no marijuana, no nothing, no food. For three days, art only. You eat only art,'" Gaga said.

The "Just Dance" singer now only smokes recreationally or to relax.

"I cold-turkeyed. For weeks and weeks, I didn't smoke at all,"she said. "And now I smoke a little bit at night, just, you know, for fun--but not to cope. That's the difference. Marina was the only person who could get me to do that, and it was not intended to be rehab."

Gaga has been hard at work promoting her latest album, "ARTPOP," which will be released on Tuesday.

She had to cancel the rest of her "Born This Way" tour due to a hip injury sustained during a show. Gaga went through surgery in February to mend what she thought was a labral tear to her right hip, E! reported. The singer had actually broken her hip, E! later reported, which meant she needed some serious downtime.

The respite gave her a chance to review her new album and better it, Gaga said.

"I was given the time to really be creative because it's a gazing process,"she said. "It really is. I have to gaze into the work for long periods of time for it to be good."
