General Motors is recalling 114,000 Chevrolet Tavera SUVs manufactured between 2005 and 2013.

This is one of the biggest recalls ever in India and the third major recall made by and auto manufacturer in India in July according to The Wall-Street Journal.

"General Motors India is voluntarily recalling the Chevrolet Tavera BS3 (2.5L variant) and BS4 (2.0L variant) from model years 2005-2013 to address emissions and specification issues," GM said in a press statement.

Government authorities have been informed of an emissions issue involved the Tavera vehicles, though the problem is not safety-related according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

GM India also suspended production of the SUV, one of the best-selling vehicles in India, until the issue is resolved.

"After the proposed solution receives approval from authorities, General Motors will resume Tavera production and sale, and move forward with its recall and customer notification plan for both the BSIII and BSIV models", the statement added.

The affected vehicles will be repaired free of charge at GM's 280 dealers according to a company spokesman.

Earlier this month, Ford India recalled 972 diesel-engine EcoSport SUVs, and last week, Yamaha Motor Co. announced it would recall 56,082 Ray scooters according to The Wall-Street Journal.
