South Korean auto companies took home majority of the "Best Car for the Money" awards by U.S. News & World Report for the year 2022 with Hyundai Motor and Kia Cars winning in six of 11 categories in total.

These awards are presented by the esteemed American media company to cars, SUVs and minivans that represent the best combination of excellent ownership experience and long-term value.

The US News & World Report took into account several factors when selecting the winners, focusing not only on the quality of the new cars but also on the cost incurred from maintaining the said vehicles for five years as well as the models' prices when they are sold as used cars.

Hyundai dominates with five awards

The bulk of those "Best Car for the Money" awards went to Hyundai, which took home the top prize in five of the 11 different automotive classes. Hyundai Motor dominated in the SUV category, winning four separate awards in that department.

Hyundai's Santa Fe took home the "Best 2-Row SUV for the Money" while its Kona model was recognized as the "Best Subcompact SUV for the Money." Hyundai's Tucson won the "Best Compact SUV for the Money" award while the Tucson Hybrid nabbed the "Best Hybrid and Electric SUV for the Money" award.

One of Hyundai's cars also managed to land an award with its Elantra Hybrid winning the "Best Hybrid and Electric Car for the Money" prize. Jim Sharifi, who is the managing editor at U.S. News Best Cars, paid tribute to Hyundai's SUV offerings, saying that the automaker offers the assurance of a really long powertrain warranty and that its vehicles tend to pack a lot of useful technology features into them.

Honda, Toyota and Nissan also recognized

Kia's lone award came in the "Best 3-Row SUV for the Money" category with its Telluride model taking home the top prize. Sharifi said Kia's vehicle is feature-rich, competitively priced and roomy and comfortable. The Telluride also offers a very long powertrain warranty just like Hyundai's winning vehicles.

Honda was another automaker that did well in the awards, with its Odyssey named as "Best Minivan for the Money", its Accord as "Best Mid-size Car for the Money," and its Civic as "Best Compact Car for the Money." Other vehicles that made the list include the Toyota Avalon for "Best Large Car for the Money" and Nissan Versa for "Best Subcompact Car for the Money."

According to Sharifi, the vehicles that took home the prestigious Best Car for the Money awards this year provide performance, comfort and features that potential buyers will appreciate. The awards will be presented on Thursday, January 27, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The presentation will take place during the Public Policy Day at the D.C. Auto Show.
