Huey Lewis was reportedly the victim of a car theft earlier this year according to California police officials and the woman who did so has pleaded guilty of the charges.
Katherine Gallagher was accused of stealing the singer's rental car from a hotel last year has agreed to a plea deal in the case and will be formally sentenced next month according to the Inquisitr.
The 62-year-old was staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Mill Valley, California at the time.
Lewis left his rented 2012 Toyota Corolla idling in the parking lot as he went back inside to grab a receipt and by the time he returned to the parking lot, the car was gone.
Several personal items like a laptop were stolen as well as they were placed inside the car before the criminal took off according to the Inquisitr.
The original investigation of the case was a failed effort, but just four days after the robbery California Highway Patrol received a tip that led them to Gallagher.
Officers assigned to the case found Gallagher behind the wheel of the vehicle later on that week and pulled her over. She was identified and booked on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property according to the Inquisitr.
Gallagher pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property in exchange for a sentence of 50 days behind bars. While she will receive formal sentencing in the case next month, Gallagher has reportedly earned enough jail credits to remain free even after sentencing is handed down according to California police.
After Gallagher pays restitution for the theft of the rental car and personal belongings her conviction can be reduced to a misdemeanor according to state police.
Lewis is best known for his time as the lead singer of the band Huey Lewis and the News, a popular rock/pop group from the 1980's. He has not commented on the status of the robbery as of press time.
