“Die Hard” Box Office Numbers Solid Over Presidents Day Weekend, Beats Out “Beautiful Creatures” (VIDEO)

The fifth "Die Hard" movie starring Bruce Willis posted a solid box-office number over Presidents Day weekend, beating out love story "Safe Haven," which came in at third according to Reuters.

"A Good Day to Die Hard," starring Willis as John McClane once again, earned $25 million at U.S. and Canadian theaters between Feb. 15 and Feb. 17 according to studio estimates.

In the new movie, McClane goes to Russia to help his son, a CIA operative played by Jai Courtney, to fight and prevent a nuclear weapons heist according to IMDB.

Of those who purchased tickets to see the new "Die Hard" movie, approximately 55 percent were male, and 45 percent were females according to Chris Aronson, president of domestic distribution at 20th Century Fox studio.

One-third of viewers were under the age of 25, and two-thirds were 25 and older according to Aronson.

"It just shows the consistency of the fan base," Aronson said according to Reuters.

The total is expected to reach $40 million for the five day U.S. holiday weekend that began on Valentine's Day and ends today, Feb. 18 which is also Presidents Day in the U.S.

The action movie beat out "Safe Haven," an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel by the same name that was released this past weekend in an attempt to benefit off of the Valentine's Day holiday. The film stars Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough according to IMDB, earned a total of $21.4 million over the weekend.

Supernatural love flick "Beautiful Creatures," which deals with a teenage girl who has magical powers, earned 7.5 million at the box office and finished in sixth place according to Reuters.

"Identity Thief," which earned the top spot last week and stars Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, finished in second place with $23.4 million.
