The Porsche 911 Carrera S was awarded the 2013 Best New Design by the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada during a press conference at the opening of the Canadian International Auto Show.
The Carrera S beat two other worthy competitors for the award, which were the Cadillac ATS and the Porsche Boxster according to a press release.
"We are delighted that the 911 was recognized for its design," said Joe Lawrence , President & CEO of Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd in a press release. "Although all-new, this latest generation of the iconic sports car is still very much recognizable by its unmistakable silhouette, one of its many defining traits since its introduction 50 years ago."
The Porsche 911 Carrera S was also awarded AJAC's "Best New Prestige and Performance Car," which was announced in October 2012.
The "Best New Design" award is presented annually to honor the vehicle that exhibits "the best balance of form and function" according to the press release. AJAC journalists selected the winner based on a number of different requirements and results from "TestFest" which the Carrera S model met.
Over 180 different vehicles were tested in Ontario this past October during "TestFest." The program includes real world driving on public roads where consumers would normally drive, so that the test and vote results are relevant to potential car and truck customers according to the press release.
Results were posted directly to the AJAC web site.
The annual Canadian Car of the Year awards program was formed in 1985 with the intention of "providing consumers with sound, comparative information on vehicles that are new to the market."
