Ten nominees were named for the first annual Green Car Journal's Green Car Technology Award this week which will be presented to the winner at The Washington Auto Show. The winner will be revealed on Jan. 31 on the second day of the show according to a press release.

"The 'green' technologies that make possible achieving ever-higher efficiencies and lower environmental impact are often the unsung heroes of the automotive world," said Ron Cogan , editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. "Whether employed in alternative fuel or conventionally powered vehicles, these technologies work in their own ways toward bringing us more environmentally positive transportation without sacrificing the functionality and driving enjoyment we expect from our vehicles."

Some of the nominees announced this week included the Fiat MultiAir which is a simple, low power requirement and low-cost technology which takes a different approach to lower engine emissions than other devices. Fisker's Automotive EVer is also a nominee for the award, which is a powerful range electric powetrain that is "well-suited" to meet the needs of high-end sedan customers according to Fisker.

Nissan's Easy-Fill Tire Alert has also been nominated for the award, which checks the tire pressure and alerts drivers which tire is low and by how much. When a driver fills a specific tire with air, the vehicle's horn "chirps" to let the driver know the tire has been properly filled according to Nissan.

The 2013 Washington Auto Show will have over 700 vehicles on display from over 43 different manufacturers. The show is open to the public from Feb. 1-10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
