The late night talk show feud between David Letterman and Jay Leno has been going on for decades, ever since Letterman was passed over for Johnny Carson's seat at the Tonight Show in favor of Leno. New reports indicate that Letterman had no issue with Leno getting Carson's job however, it was Leno's insecurities that caused the two to end a once close relationship.

In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Letterman threw Leno a compliment, calling him the funniest and smartest comic he's ever met according to Yahoo.

"I will say - and I'm happy to say - that I think he is the funniest guy I've ever known," said Letterman to Oprah according to Yahoo. "Just flat out, if you go to see him do his night club act, just the funniest, the smartest, a wonderful observationist and very appealing as a comic."

Shortly after that however, he stated Leno is so brilliant because he's also the "most insecure person" he's ever met as well.

Many people assumed Letterman would take over for Carson since he had been hosting "Late Night with David Letterman" since 1982, which aired after Carson's Tonight Show. The feud, which started in 1992, was documented in the 1996 HBO movie "The Late Shift."

Leno famously ended his 17-year as The Tonight Show host to begin "The Jay Leno Show" for NBC, but it failed to produce the same ratings his previous show obtained. Letterman would routinely beat Leno's replacement Conan O'Brien as well, forcing NBC to bring Leno back to The Tonight Show.

The full interview with Letterman will appear on Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. on OWN.

Christmas Break Down

Leno couldn't even catch a break on Christmas after one of his many cars broke down while out for a drive on Christmas day.

It's unclear what caused the issue with the vehicle, but its unlikely Leno was able to call the American Automobile Association for help. The vehicle is a 1910 Model O-O steam car that Leno personally rebuilt for his legendary auto collection.

Leno posts video blogs explaining the process he has to go through to restore many of his vehicles, often costing the Late Night comedian millions of dollars per car. His collection includes other classic vehicles and sport cars that are regularly in high demand.

Many of his cars have been shown at the "prestigious" Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A. according to The Daily Mail.
