The 2013 Ford Focus was awarded with a top safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration . The vehicle reportedly earned a five-star overall score in NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program testing according to the company's press release.
The company said they are pleased with the top safety rating, since they designed the vehicle with safety in mind.
"The 2013 Focus is another example of Ford's commitment to safety and NHTSA's NCAP program has recognized this fact," said Steve Kenner, global director of the Automotive Safety Office in the company press release. "The Focus is built with technologies from bumper to bumper to help reduce occupant injury risk when a crash is unavoidable."
The new vehicle comes equipped with front and side airbag technologies and tried tailoring deployment to meet specific passenger needs. The front airbags were designed specially with a curve-shape tether system that will pull in the lower section to create "a pocket to help lessen the impact" if the vehicle is in an accident.

Ford SYNC, which was co-developed with Microsoft and uses Nuance Communications voice recognition technology to let drivers and passengers use media players and Bluetooth technology in the vehicle.
The vehicle comes with an AdvanceTrac system which helps the vehicle continue its journey by "measuring side-to-side skidding", how fast the vehicle is going, throttle position and if any of the wheels slip the system will reduce engine torque and apply certain brakes according to the press release.
The MyKey system lets parents program any key through the vehicle message center to limit selected items like the stereo, block incoming calls, texts, and the vehicle's top speed. It also makes sure all passengers are buckled in before people start using the audio system.
The MyKey system works with the active park assist system by using an "ultrasonic-based sensing system" and an all electronic power-assisted steering system to move the vehicle in proper position for parallel parking. The park assist system also calculates optimal steering angles and can steer the vehicle right into a selected parking spot.
