2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio: Latest Spy Shots Reveal A Well Rounded Profile And Giulia Antecedent

The upcoming Alpha Romeo Stelvio SUV which the Italian automaker hopes will help it propel into the league of world's top automakers has just been caught undergoing trial runs. The new set of images which also happen to be the clearest that we have had of the new SUV also reveals its Giulia antecedent.

The above applies to the entire front facia and rear lights, besides the overall shape of the car as well. As Auto Evolution reported, a comparison of the Guilia's headlights with that of the Stelvio's done by a group of Alpha Romeo loyalists clearly reveal the similarities they both share.

The same applies to the rear light as well that seems to be a direct ripoff of the Guilia backlights. The front hood also seems to be hiding vents as well as creases that no doubt will impart a strong muscular look to the SUV.

On the whole, the SUV has a rounded profile which does look similar to the Jaguar F-Pace to some extent but with slightly smaller dimensions, claimed Auto Blog.

As for the choice of powertrain to power the new Stelvio, while there is not much that is known as of now, a few assumptions have come to the fore. As OppTrends have put it, the base Stelvio will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine while a more powerful twin turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 should be powering the top-end Stelvio model.

The 2.9-liter V6 churns out an impressive 505 horsepower in the Giulia Quadrifoglio and it will be interesting to see if the same engine makes it to the Stelvio as well, at least for the models destined for the US.

Choice of transmission could include a 6-speed manual as an option while an 8-speed auto-box could come as standard fitment.

Fortunately for us, we will have most of our answered next month itself given that the Stelvio is all set to make a splash the Los Angeles Motor Show due in November. A US launch is expected by around mid-2017 as a 2018 model year car and will have the likes of the Mercedes GLC and BMW X3 for company.
