Lexus on Monday, July 30 unveiled its new LS lineup with a celebrity-laden design exhibit in San Francisco.
The "Lexus Laws of Attraction" exhibit was intended to reflect bold changes in the design and performance of Lexus's flagship model. Central to the exhibit were dramatic photos featuring celebrity couples posing with the car.
The couples, who were on hand for the debut, were actor Jason Schwartzman of the movies Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, and The Fantastic Mr Fox; and his wife Brady Cunningham, an owner of the TENOVERSIX fashion boutique; model and actress Jaime King, who stars on the CW show "Heart of Dixie"; and her husband Kyle Newman, director of the film Fanboys; actress, Lancome model, and Benihana heiress Devon Aoki and her husband, the movie-star-goodlooking businessman James Bailey; and writer and Barney's "creative ambassador" Simon Doonan and his husband, author and designer Jonathan Adler. Doonan and Adler also served as the exhibit's creative directors.
The couples were photographed by Ellen von Unwerth, but the exhibition also included work by Victor Demarchelier, Bronques, and others.
The 2013 LS fleet consists of the LS 460, LS 460L, LS 600hL hybrid, and the all-new LS 460 F SPORT. "The entire 2013 LS lineup is refined with dynamic, fresh styling that reflects the bold new face of Lexus," the company said in a statement announcing the fleet's launch. "The aggressive spindle grille gives the new LS a greater road presence and stronger brand identity while heralding a significant improvement in driving dynamics, responsiveness and handling."
The message from Lexus is clear: the new LS, with its enhanced performance and technology and its redesigned "driver-focused" interiors, offers a fresh new driver experience over previous generations of the 23-year-old model.
The LS boasts as standard a more advanced lighting system, a navigation system, an automatic climate-control system, and a remote touch system that allows for easy operation of the climate, audio, phone, app, and navigation systems.
In addition to changes in the car's interior styling, Lexus points to the 2013 LS's increased body rigidity and to the more stable, "road-hugging" ride it offers; as well as a collision-avoidance system that detects obstacles and, among its other functions, can brings the car to a halt if it is going less than 24 miles-per-hour.
