More than 1.3 million BMW cars from worldwide have been recalled as a result of battery malfunctions which may result in fire in extreme cases.
The German luxury carmaker is recalling all of its 5 and 6 Series models built between 2003 and 2010. The company says that in some cases, the battery cable cover inside the trunk may be mounted incorrectly.
“If this battery cable inside the trunk is not mounted correctly, the screw beneath this cover can become loose. If it gets loose, it might lead to problems in the electrical systems. That can lead to the whole technical difficulties in the electronic system of the car,” said Bernhard Ederer, BMW automobiles spokesman.
According to the company’s press release, no serious incidents or injuries from the technical snag has been reported.
Ederer added that the BMW 5 and 6 series owners affected by the recall should inform the BMW partner and make a quick appointment to get the technical snag fixed at the earliest. It says the fix should take less than an half an hour and customers will not be charged for repair works.
Sources claim that the recall will affect about 368,000 cars in the U.S., 293,000 cars in Germany, 109,000 cars in Britain, and 102,000 in China.
