A driver pulled over in Georgia might be paying extra for the McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese that he picked up last week after he was cited for "driving while eating."
"Maybe I was enjoying the burger too much and I needed to tone it down. I was certainly willing to do so but I didn't expect to be fined or punished," said Madison Turner, an Alabama man who was pulled over in Marietta last week.
The police officer wrote him up under a fairly vague Georgia law intended to penalize distracted driving; the section of law reads, "A driver shall exercise due care in operating a motor vehicle on the highways of this state and shall not engage in any actions which shall distract such driver from the safe operation of such vehicle."
Cobb County police couldn't comment because the case is ongoing, WSB-TV Atlanta reported.
The officer involved definitely pulled Turner over because of the burger, the Alabama driver told media.
"The officer explained to me that he observed me eating a burger for 2 miles," Turner said. "He said specifically three times, you can't just go down the road eating a hamburger."
Turner has a court date scheduled for Feb. 3.
