Thanksgiving Travel: 650,000 People to Use Greyhound Buses This Weekend

As you make your last minute travel plans for the Thanksgiving Day weekend, Greyhound wants to remind people that you can never go wrong taking a bus to your holiday destination.

The largest provider of intercity bus transportation expects more than 650,000 customers to travel to more than 2,300 places across the United States during the Thanksgiving weekend, which is one of Greyhound's busiest times of the year.

"We expect the highest demand to be Nov. 25, 26 and Nov. 30, as many customers travel to their holiday destinations to spend time with loved ones on those peak days," said Andy Kaplinsky, chief commercial officer, Greyhound Lines, Inc. in a press statement. "We want customers to know that by traveling on Greyhound for Thanksgiving, they can simply sit back, relax and enjoy our modern amenities, such as free Wi-Fi, power outlets, extra legroom and leather seats, providing them with a comfortable ride and an overall stellar travel experience."

Greyhound, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is committed to providing a more personalized and enhanced customer experience this holiday season due to a number of recent additions to its buses. Among the recent introductions includes a new onboard Wi-Fi platform that allows customers to browse specific destination content, stay socially connected, and ear E-Rewards.

The company also recently introduced a new Greyhound mobile app that allows users to book trips easier than ever before, making traveling during the Thanksgiving Day weekend enjoyable and stress-free.

With fares starting as low as $1, customers are able to travel without having to worry about having enough money to get to where they need to go. They can also enjoy the ride comfortably with no middle seat, meaning they can get an aisle seat to exit the bus quickly or a window seat to look at the scenery. All customers can check their first bag free, and the second bag costs just $15, according to the Greyhound website.

Since Greyhound expects to have heavy customer volume this holiday season, customers should purchase tickets in advance and arrive at least one hour ahead of their schedule departure time on the day of travel.

Customers should remember that tickets are valid only on the date and schedule for which they were purchased. Anyone who wants to change travel arrangements can get tickets re-issued for a fee if seats are available.

"To best meet the demand, we strongly suggest customers buy their tickets now, not only to get the lowest fare, but to ensure that their desired schedule is available," said Kaplinsky. "Customers should also consider being flexible with their travel plans and look at off-peak travel dates if possible."
