Preorders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in South Korea are estimated to have topped the 100,000 mark, which would be more than Apple's main rival Samsung and its Galaxy Note 4 in its home country.
Though preorders for Apple's new iPhones are expected to hit the six-figure mark in South Korea, presales for the Note 4 were less than half of that in a similar timeframe, at only 30,000 units, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are expected to reach consumers in South Korea this Friday.
Most of the preorders have been made through carrier KT Corp., which was the first carrier to offer the new devices in Korea. The Journal reported that presales for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus reached 50,000 units in only 30 minutes.
An additional 20,000 preorders were first handled during the first 20 minutes by LG Uplus Corp. SK Telecom Co. has declined so far to offer specific figures for the iPhone devices.
The presales implies that Apple could make substantial gains in South Korea, a location where it has only 6 percent market share, according to The Journal.
Samsung is still the dominant company in its home country, where it accounts for 63 percent of all devices.
The Galaxy-maker admitted in September though that it launched the Galaxy Note 4 early in South Korea and China since consumers displayed a "positive reaction" to the announcement of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices.
The Note 4 debuted in September, and was released in the U.S. earlier this month.
The iPhone 6 Plus is Apple's response to the "phablet" trend of late. The stylus-based Galaxy Note series was the most popular phablet device until the iPhone 6 Plus was released.
The current Note devices comes with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, which is a little bigger than the iPhone 6 Plus. Graphic tests have shown that the Note 4 isn't as good as the iPhone 6 Plus when it comes to performance however, according to AppleInsider.
