Facebook Testing Feature To Let You Search Old Statuses

Your Facebook statuses from high school could come back to haunt you in the near future.

The world's biggest social network is testing a new search feature that allows users to pull up old posts from friends by keyword, TechCrunch reported via Bloomberg News.

Expanded from the "Graph Search" feature launched on mobile last year, the function is available to a smaller subset of users and additionally lets them search for content that friends have followed.

Facebook called the tool "an improvement to search on mobile" in an email statement to Bloomberg. The company has been exploring ways to let users search within the site for a long time now.

"We're going to start with a limited rollout of Graph Search now but starting very slowly," Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at the time of the feature's beta launch in January 2013, as quoted by TechCrunch. "We need to get data from people using it so we can make the data better. But we're looking forward to getting more people onto it over the coming weeks and months."

If search rolls out for all users, it will mean that old statuses and comments won't necessarily disappear with the changing timeline. Similar to Twitter's search function, Graph Search could allow users to bring back old posts that they especially like.
