The 2013-'14 Honda CR-Z hatchback has a new supercharger kit option that will boost powertrain output to 197 horsepower.

Announced on Thursday, the new Honda Performance Development kit will be installed by dealers and is listed at $5,495, which does not include installation fees, Edmunds.com reported.

The accessory kit, which provides a boost from the model's original 130 horsepower, is available only for manual transmission versions. It comprises "an HPD air-to-air intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors and an HPD air filter system," Edmunds reported.

The CR-Z, which runs on a hybrid system of a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and a battery-fed electric motor, competes in its segment with the Hyundai Veloster, Scion tC and Volkswagen Beetle.

The Honda CR-Z comes in two trim levels, base and EX. For the base version, the CR-Z includes "alloy wheels, automatic climate control, full power accessories, cruise control, Bluetooth and an audio system with USB/auxiliary audio jacks," according to Edmunds.

In the EX trim, xenon headlights, foglights and a top-notch audio system are added as features, while a voice-activated navigation system is an available option.

A six-speed manual transmission comes standard on the CR-Z, while a continuously variable with shift paddles is available as an option.

The hatchback gets an EPA-estimated 34 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving for the manual transmission version.
