The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will be discontinued in the U.S. once the 2015 model year vehicle is released, according to a report by Edmunds.
"I can confirm that 2015 will be the last year for Evo," said Alex Fedorak, a Mitsubishi Motors North America spokesman, according to the report.
The sedan, which is usually available to customers in MR and GSR trims, will reach dealerships later on this summer.
The news also means that the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI now stands alone in this segment.
The 2015 Lancer Evo comes equipped with a carryover 291-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine.
All GSR models are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, whereas the MR comes with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
All 2015 models are sold with all-wheel-drive as a standard feature, along with heated side-view mirrors.
The GSR vehicle comes with an optional Premium package that adds a Rockford-Fosgate sound system with nine speakers, heated front seats, and a power sunroof.
Mitsubishi sold only 8,848 Mitsubishi Lancers in the first half of 2014, according a June sales report released by the automaker.
Pricing for the new Lancer Evolution vehicle has not been announced by Mitsubishi yet.
To get an idea how much the vehicle may cost, the 2014 model is available for a base price of $35,805, including a destination fee of $810.
