The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that the 2015 Acura ILX recently earned its top five-star overall safety rating, based on crash tests conducted by the company.

NHTSA said that the vehicle earned five stars in the side crash test, and four stars in the front crash test, and rollover crash test.

Five stars is the highest amount a vehicle can receive by the safety administration for a specific crash test.

Standard safety features found on the new vehicle includes: vehicle stability assist with traction control and antilock brakes, six airbags, and a rearview camera, according to the automaker.

The new model is sold with two available powertrain choices, including: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine linked to a five-speed automatic transmission and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission.

The ILX Hybrid has been discontinued by Acura, according to Honda.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 ILX vehicle yet.

Expected competitors of the new ILX includes the 2015 Audi A3, Buick Verano and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.

The 2015 Buick Verano also earned a top five-star safety rating from NHTSA.

The 2015 Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class have not been rated yet however.

The 2015 ILX is available at dealerships now.
