Apple is on track to set yet another record in the June quarter, according to data from Morgan Stanley's AlphaWise survey.
Data through the end of May showed that there is a strong demand among consumers for approximately 39 million iPhone units in the June quarter, according Apple Insider.
Apple's previous June record came last year when it sent out 31.2 million iPhone devices in a three-month span.
Morgan Stanely's AlphaWise surveys have been a good indicator of how much market demand there is for Apple's iPhone over the past year. In four of the last five quarters the survey has outperformed Wall Street's consensus estimates.
Last quarter the survey showed a stronger than expected demand for the popular device, thanks to carrier promotions and international expansion.
Analyst Katy Huberty revealed the results of the latest AlphaWise Smartphone Tracker in a research note to investors this week.
"Similar to the March quarter, we believe promotions from Apple, retailers and carriers are driving strong demand," Huberty wrote, according to Apple Insider.
She added that the company likely benefited from the launch of an 8-gigabyte iPhone 5c in mid-March, and that it also started promoting a trade-in program at U.S. stores in May
Market watchers predicted Apple would sell 38 million iPhones, whereas the AlphaWise tracker pegged demand at 40.6 million units, which was pretty close to the 43.7 million units the company actually sold.
Likewise, AlphaWise figures claims that Samsung might be slumping compared to 2013. It says that the demand for the company's flagship Galaxy smartphones is down 1 percent year over year to 41 million units.
