A scuba diver swimming 90 feet under the water near Florida's Vero Beach recently fended off a great white shark with a harpoon gun, capturing the incident in a video.

West Melbourne, Fla., native Jimmy Roseman was wearing a headcam when the 12-foot-long deadly animal approached him, The New York Daily News reported.

For two minutes in the video, the shark is seen circling closer and closer to Roseman, who eventually used his spear gun to prod the great white and scare it away.

"In the video, it did look like it was kind of far away," he told FOX 35. "But the whole time it was about 6 to 7 foot away from me."

As for the moment of truth right before the shark swam away, Roseman said, "I had to poke it really hard that last time."

Researchers have found evidence that great whites have a migration pattern based on seasonal influences, where their shift to the Sunshine State area is influenced by water temperature, food sources and other factors.

Officially known as the species Carcharodon carcharias, great white sharks usually live in cold and temperate waters worldwide, FOX 35 reported. Great whites in the the western North Atlantic Ocean are most often seen on the continental shelf.
