GM Recall: New Vehicle Employee Pricing Available to Ignition Switch Victims

General Motors has announced that owners of vehicles affected by the controversial ignition switch recall can receive employee pricing on a new GM vehicles.

"It is one of the tools our dealers have to satisfy customers impacted by the recall," said Jim Cain, a GM spokesman, according to Edmunds.

The company will not be marketing the program however, so affected GM owners who would like to take advantage of the offer will have to discuss it with their local dealer.

Cain said that no trade-in is necessary to take advantage of the offer as well. Those who would like a certified pre-owned vehicle can take $500 off the purchase price.

"The employee price reflects a discount to the invoice price. That's as much information as I can share on pricing," said Cain.

The recall involves approximately 2.6 million vehicles, including: 2005-'07 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-'07 Chevrolet HHR and Pontiac Solstice, 2007 Pontiac G5 and Saturn Sky and 2003-'07 Saturn Ion.

The recall has been linked to 13 fatalities.

Parts to fix defective ignition switches are available now at GM dealerships and dealers have already started making the necessary repairs.

Repairs usually take around 90 minutes, according to the automaker.

"Wait times may be longer depending on the busyness of a particular dealership," GM said in a statement posted on its website.

Repairs could stretch into the fall due to the amount of vehicles affected by the recall.
