Volkswagen has confirmed it is recalling approximately 150,201 2012-'13 Volkswagen Passat vehicles due to a low-beam headlight bulb that could lose electrical contact, leading to "reduced visibility" according to the automaker.
"It is possible that, in instances where the hood is closed roughly (or dropped from a certain height), the resulting vibration and/or impact can cause a low-beam headlight bulb to lose electrical contact," said Volkswagen in a statement on its website. "If this happens, a warning in the instrument cluster will immediately alert the driver. Failing illumination of the low-beam bulb may lead to reduced visibility of the vehicle."
No crashes or injuries have been linked to the recall.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to post anything regarding the issue.
Volkswagen dealers are being instructed to install an improved bulb fitting, free of charge.
The hood bumpers will also be inspected and, if necessary, adjusted/ or replaced to prevent the hood from contacting the headlight assembly, according to VW.
A specific recall date has not been set by the automaker yet.
