Ford Confirms New Small Concept Coming in February

Ford has announced it will unveil a new concept vehicle during the New Delhi Auto Show in February, according to Reuters.

The new vehicle is a part of a new design direction that could help the automaker improve their presence in India, a growing small car market.

Ford said the concept car will offer a glimpse into what kind of vehicle the automaker expects to be a top seller in the Asia Pacific region, which should account for almost a third of the company's global sales by mid-decade, according to Reuters.

The automaker has not released features that will be included in the vehicle yet however.

"The concept (car) will showcase Ford's vision for the future in the competitive compact-car segment in India and other dynamic emerging markets," Ford said in a statement, according to Reuters.

Ford has predicted that compact car sales will double, compared to last year's numbers, to approximately 2 million vehicles by 2018 in India.

Automakers sold 2.7 million passenger vehicles during the last fiscal year, according to Reuters.

The smallest Ford vehicle currently sold in India is the Figo, according to the automaker. Ford has not said whether the new car will replace the Figo or it will be sold alongside the small hatchback.

Most people in India prefer to drive smaller vehicles due to limited parking in big cities and clogged up roadways.

Make sure to check back after the auto show for more information on the small vehicle.
