2018 Honda Odyssey: Still The Best Minivan For Families?

For the past two decades, Honda's name became synonymous with minivans. Its Honda Odyssey topped minivan sales in the U.S. in the last six years. With such high bar to follow, does the 2018 Honda Odyssey redesign deliver? Is it still the best minivan for families?

The 2018 Honda Odyssey boasts its high-tech designs and features, chief of which is the "Advanced Compatibility Engineering" (ACE) body structure. The ACE is an enhancement that gives the car, especially the passenger side, more rigidity to protect its rider against car crashes, according to Forbes.

The 2018 Honda Odyssey's exterior looks identical to previous models, albeit a few inches narrower. Inside, however, it's something else. The car has an all-digital panel with futuristic mood lighting. According to Autoblog, though the panel might look busy, it offers a lot of functionality and it's easy to use.

The Honda Odyssey's chief engineer, Chad Harrison, revealed the buttons in the panel might take some time to adapt but it's not challenging to get used to. "We wanted to make it blind-touch operable," he said during the unveiling of the new car, as per Auto News.

What mindful parents who drive their kids everywhere would love about the 2018 Honda Odyssey is its ride control. It has been the hallmark of the car brand since nearly two decades ago. This model also has its own rear suspension with a multilink design and new feature, the anti-roll bar, which keeps the drive smoother even with heavy cargo, Car Driver cited.

Under the hood, the 2018 Honda Odyssey's 3.5 liter V6 has 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The Touring and Elite models are both 10-speed automatics and it's a slight upgrade to most Odyssey's engine transmission at nine-speed. Fuel and power efficiency is courtesy of its direct-injection system, which features cylinder deactivation, variable valves and improved start-stop system.
