Tesla Semi Truck Unveiled In September Confirms Elon Musk, Pickup Truck 18 to 24 Months

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently confirmed the timeline when the electric semi truck and the pickup truck will be unveiled. In fact, he made his announcement with the use of his favorite method: Twitter. Also, at a TED event in Vancouver, last Friday, Musk teased the first official image of the upcoming semi truck.

According to Musk in a tweet, he pointed out that the Tesla Semi Truck will be revealed in September, although the high possibility that this will be a prototype is not dismissed. Then, in a follow-up tweet, he revealed that the Tesla's Pickup Truck will be unveiled 18 to 24 months later.

Then during the Ted talk, he gave out more information about the forthcoming electric vehicles. He described the EV as a "spy truck," after pointing out that he took it out for a spin already. Spry could mean that you can drive the electric freight hauler like a sports car. But this is no surprise since the same torque advantages in Tesla's sedan scale up pretty well.

Tesla's electric semi truck and the pickup truck were in fact mentioned in the second phase of Tesla longer-term "Master Plan" that Elon Musk unveiled in 2016. Both are part of a new range of EVs that Musk promised. Also included are a bus-like autonomous EV and an electric SUV.

Based on the teaser image that Elon Musk showed at the TED event, it seems that the truck will be smoother compared with a regular truck. Also, its headlights and general design seem to have taken design cues from Tesla's EVs.

It seems Tesla will be pretty much busy for the next couple of years with the Model 3 coming up and other electric vehicles being introduced to fill up the market niche. But let's hope Tesla finds a way around the current issue companies have faced with the major limitation of an all-electric semi truck and the pickup truck.
