Fiat 500 With Hellcat Engine: Powerful But Limited Availability

Apr 03, 2017 05:00 AM EDT | Paul Urban

Fiat 500 with Hellcat engine will only be out in limited availability. This is interesting as the small car will be made powerful because of this limited edition Hellcat engine. As it is small, few units will be as powerful as the muscle and track cars out there.

Recently, the goal of the project was to fit an entire Hellcat engine and drivetrain combination into a Fiat 500. This will require adjustments as the entire unit will be placed behind the driver and new firewall has to be made. Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler, however, liked the idea and declared Fiat 500 Hellcat as insanely fun to drive. Other reports also revealed that even Marchionne wanted to have one unit for himself.

Fiat 500 with Hellcat engine will be sold to interested buyers but in absolutely limited quantities. Interested clients were awaited at Fiat dealers last April 1 and had to pay for the car in cash basis ONLY. Apparently, all other modes of payment were declined.

Price for the Fiat 500 with Hellcat has not been released. However, it is expected to be more expensive than the Abarth. The Fiat 500 Hellcat is reported to be extremely powerful for being able to produce 707-horsepower. The available number of Fiat 500 with Hellcat up for sale is also not revealed but considering the labor-intensive process and the cost involved in its production, it should not go over 500 units.

There is indeed a huge difference between Fiat 500 and the Fiat 500 Hellcat. The 2016 Fiat 500 for one only produces 101-horsepower because of its 1.4-liter four mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The Fiat 500 with Hellcat engine produces about 600-horsepower more.

The Fiat 500 is a fun small car to drive, which is already a given. However, it makes a lot of sense when Sergio Marchionne described the Fiat 500 with Hellcat engine as "insanely fun to drive." With additional 600-horsepower in such a small car, it does make it fun- really insanely fun.
