The Italian luxury sports car manufacturer has set a new production car lap record at Germany's Nurburgring. The feat was achieved using specially developed street legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires.

Lamborghini sets new production car lap record at the Nurburgring. Driven by test driver Marco Mapelli last October 5, 2017, the new Huracan Performante was able to achieve a lap time of 6 minutes and 52.1 seconds around Nordschliefe. The Huracan Performante's lap time is five seconds faster than the 918 Spyder, the current record holder.

It is interesting to note that the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer's new Huracan Performante's lap time is seven seconds faster than Lamborghini V12 flagship Aventador SV which achieved a lap time of 6 minutes and 59.73 seconds back in May of 2015 and also driven by Mapelli. It is believed that the Huracan Performante was able to achieve its lap time thanks to the vehicle's active aero.

The Radical SR8 LM still holds the fastest lap time for a street legal vehicle at 6 minutes and 48 seconds. Although it is an impressively fast vehicle, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante's record is nothing compared to the fastest lap time ever of 6 minutes and 11.13 seconds set by a Porsche 956. The Porsch 956 was driven by Bellof Stefan back in 1983.

Under the Huracan Performante's hood is naturally aspirated V10 engine that is able to produce 640 horsepower. The engine is mated to a more stabilized and responsive seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Aside from the new Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, it has a re-engineered suspension and upgraded traction control. The Huracan Performante is 88 pounds lighter than the standard-issue Huracan. The sports car has the same overall body line, design, and physique as the standard-issue Huracan but with a lot more Alcantara and carbon accents on the edges and the interior.
