Honda announced this week that the 2013 Accord Coupe is the only vehicle to earn a NHTSA 5-star Overall Vehicle Score and an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick + rating in every test the vehicle was put through according to a company press release.

All tested Honda models have earned a Top Safety Pick of Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, achieving a "Good" after every test.

The Civic Coupe, Fit EV and FCX Clarity have yet to be tested according to Honda.

"The Honda comprehensive approach to vehicle safety is validated by these top-level safety ratings," said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda."

The new Coupe earned a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score designation and is also the only car in its class to earn a "Good" rating in all IIHS test modes, which includes their new small overlap frontal crash test.

The test, which is sometimes called the "narrow offset" test, was designed to put cars through what happens when the front corner of a vehicle hits another vehicle or object going at high speeds according to Honda.

New standard safety and visibility technologies available with the Accord includes a Back-Up Camera, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Watch assistance to help make sure drivers are aware of their surroundings in front, behind and on the sides of their vehicle.

Other safety features includes SmartVent front side airbags, and side curtain airbags as well. The new SmartVent side airbag design helps decrease the chance of injury to those riding in the vehicle during a crash or accident.

"The 2013 Honda Accord truly excels in all areas, delivering the best overall safety ratings, while also providing exhilarating performance, outstanding comfort and top-class fuel economy," said St. Cyr in the press release.
