HP has unveiled a new 2-in-1 device at the MWC 2017 as a successor to the G1. The device is called the Pro x2 612 G2 and is looking to become a direct rival to the Surface Pro line of tablets.
The new HP Pro x2 612 G2. The new 2-in-1 differs from its predecessor in a lot of ways. It is aimed at mobile professionals who want a secure high-performance device that can be used both at the office and while on the road without issues.
The G1 had a pull-apart design with teeth that slot into the device's side. That particular design made it look like a thick regular laptop.
The new Pro x2 612 G2 on the other hand sports a wholly different design. It is a slim full high-definition tablet with a magnetically attachable keyboard cover and a fold-out kickstand. It is reminiscent of the Elite x2 but with the latest Intel processors, a stronger and more rigid structure, and the lack of the cloth back of its keyboard for easy wiping.
Other features include integrated Intel HD Graphics 615, dual-band wireless 802.11ac with optional WAN, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, USB 3.0 ports, audio and microphone combo jack, and a microSD card slot. The device comes in five processors with the Intel Pentium 4410Y as the base processor and the Intel Core i7-7Y75 as the top processor. Minimum internal storage is 512 gigabytes but can come in as large as 128 gigabytes. A full of its features and specs can be accessed here.
The Pro x2 612 G2 features the HP Sure Start Gen3 that protects the device's smart card reader and system BIOS. It is designed to pass MIL-STD 810G tests which make it highly durable.
Accessories of the device include the Pro x2 612 G2 Collaboration Keyboard which is a full-sized keyboard with backlit keys and a touchpad. It has specific keys for video and audio calling functions as well as volume control, placing a call, hanging, and the like. The keys have a special coating that allows the keyboard to act as a protective cover when closed. Other accessories include the Active Pen with App Launch and a Rugged Case.
