LG has unveiled its new flagship smartphone in Barcelona. The unveiling happened ahead of the MWC 2017 trade show.
The new LG G6 smartphone can run two apps at the same time via split-screen. The Korean tech company's newest flagship smartphone is called the G6 and it is nothing like the previous models. It has ditched the traditional modular design, changing the aspect ratio of its 5.7-inch display from 18:9 to 16:9. This means that when the smartphone is in landscape mode, the screen appears wider which allows a user to have two apps running alongside each other via split-screen.
Aside from this new feature, the G6 is the first smartphone outside the Google Pixel line to sport Google Assistant. Google Assistant is a new voice-controlled virtual assistant from the search engine giant that rivals Apple's Siri.
The smartphone is surprisingly impressive in that it has a 5.7-inch screen in a 5.2-inch body. It has rounded corners which make it more difficult to break when it does fall out of one's hands.
It may look small compared to today's tablet size standards and yet it actually has a 2,880 by 1,440-pixel resolution. It also has curved Gorilla glass at the back with only an aluminum frame holding the front and rear glass panels which just adds more to its elegance.
Other features of the G6 include 13-megapixel dual camera at the rear with one being a wide-angle sensor, a wide-angle 5-megapixel front camera, four gigabytes of RAM, 32 gigabytes of internal storage, and a 3,300mAh quick-charging battery. It is IP68 water-resistant and dust-resistant.
The smartphone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. Asked why the phone didn't come with the latest Snapdragon processor, the Korean tech company responded that the flagship processor from Qualcomm just wasn't ready at the time of the smartphone's production.
The G6 is expected to help the company bounce back from disappointing LG G5 sales the previous year. The Korean tech company has not given out pricing details of the G6 yet although that information is expected to be made available in the days leading up to its release which could be any day now.
