The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider has been regarded as Mazda MX-5 Miata's twin. This is actually factual in many ways, however, the Spider is unique in its own little way. This sports car may be patterned and share the same skeleton as the Miata but it is created not to be entirely a copycat, rather provide car enthusiasts an option.

According to Car and Driver, off the bat, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider has larger trunk space. For a small sports car as the Spider, a larger boot may definitely come to play as an advantage. Sports cars are used to show off, but of course, it can also be utilized for long distance driving. What will a driver do with a fancy sports car without any space for his luxury items?

The Spider is also reported to have an impressive quiet interior for top-up cruising. Since the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider is definitely a drool-worthy sports car, it is also a good thing to see for spectators while stuck in traffic and relatively friendly to the driver because of its automatic transmission. Essentially, the goal of the 124 is to be presented as more luxurious than Miata so having the automatic transmission took away its sporty appeal.

The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider is considered a standout in terms of braking. It is reported to come to a full stop at 70 mph in only 165 feet. Its springs and dampers are also noteworthy as these are responsible for a smooth ride.

However, it is not all positive for the Spider. It may have its advantages over its supposed twin, but it does have its misgivings. Unfortunately, the Fiat's laggy powertrain is one of its weaknesses. It comes 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is capable of 160-horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Other vehicles of the same kind come packed with so much power that the Spider is sure to be fed by their dust.

As added by The Car Connection, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider has been given a total score of 6.6 out of a possible 10 points. As earlier reported, it didn't do so well compared to its competitors because of its weak low-speed power. Also, though the trunk is bigger, the cabin is still relatively small for both the passenger and the driver.

The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider may not be one's ultimate sports car but it can serve its purpose especially if it all boils down to aesthetics. It is, after all, a sports car. However, it is one of the more affordable ones so it won't burn pockets like its competitors. For the untrained eye, the Spider may be considered an eye-candy. Just stay away from random racing competitions as the Spider will most likely be the last to reach the finish line.
