Microsoft recently announced that UK prices for Microsoft's Surface Book have surprisingly increased by roughly 11 percent or £150. The company confirmed that the price increase is due to the currency changes that ended from the UK's vote to separate from the European Union last year.
TechCrunch was the first who spotted the increase. A spokeswoman for Microsoft said, "adjusting the British pound prices of some of our hardware and consumer software in order to align to market dynamics."
She also said that the price increase was effective on Wednesday, Feb. 15. She added, "For indirect sales where our products and services are sold through partners, final prices will continue to be determined by them."
With that said, base versions of the Microsoft Surface Book 128GB with Intel Core i5 processor that previously cost £1,299 will now cost £1,449. However, Microsoft explained that the increase would only affect consumers and companies that do not have a volume licensing contract.
Microsoft is reportedly not the first company to raise its prices this week due to Brexit-linked currency fluctuations. Sonos also increased the price of their luxury speakers by up to 25 percent and as well as Dell, Razer. Apple has all implemented price increase over the past months in the wake of Brexit.
Furthermore, the price increase is already anticipated to affect the device's market performance in the UK, as it will become less tempting especially a new version of the Surface hardware is coming later this year. Last week, the device got a $250 discount in the United States, indicating that a new version could be released anytime soon.
Microsft Surface Book base model will be released without a graphics chip while the remaining versions will be equipped with NVIDIA's GTX 940MX graphics processor. The company also gave a small discount of £20 when a customer will purchase the device with Microsoft Office.
