Toyota has announced that it is building a real-life Tonka truck. This Tonka truck will be based on the company's top-selling HiLux.

Toyota has just taken the first step in making a dream a reality by taking a page out of every boyhood dream to do so. The company decided to venture into the making of a Tonka truck as a double celebration! This is to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Toyota Motor Corporation and Tonka's 70th birthday.

The design of the car is undertaken by Toyota Australia's design team. The design team is all set to give a makeover to the range-topping HiLux SR5 dual-cab 4x4. The exterior of the vehicle will be changed dramatically and beefed up to look like the Tonka truck, reported Stuff.

The design team at Toyota Australia feels the combination was perfect as both HiLux and Tonka are tough. "We expect the extreme style and capability of our re-imagined HiLux will capture the imagination of kids and adults alike," said Nicolas Hogios the product design chief.

The design team will fit in an aggressive front grille and the vehicle will also have new bumpers. The door moldings of the car will be made bigger and it will also feature a revised tailgate. The sketch of the vehicle that has been presented also reveals that the Tonka truck will have a higher ride height and will don larger wheels and tires, reported Drive.

"HiLux is such a great canvas, and we really pushed the envelope by marrying our number-one seller with the Tonka brand. The end result is so exciting because the HiLux Tonka really delivers the dream of every kid who ever wanted such a truck," Hogios said.

The Tonka truck dream will turn into reality soon. Toyota is currently building the Tonka-tough HiLux and it is expected to be finished within the next few months.
