The NES Classic Edition was re-introduced to the market last year as a strictly closed system. Packed with Nintendo's all-time favorite games, the console remains untouched until a group of hackers figured out how to add more games to the much-sought gadget. This time, a new mod update now allows users to switch from one game to another without resetting the whole system.
According to Polygon, GitHub user ClusterM developed an app called Hakchi2 that allows the console's users to hop from one game to the next in a flash without pressing the reset button. The app offers a shortcut to return to the home screen by pressing the down and select buttons simultaneously.
Hakchi2 is designed to streamline the process of backing up the NES Classic's internal storage. The modified process creates folders and sorts games alphabetically. It provides start button simulation for a second controller by holding Up+A+B. Gamers have the freedom to change the shortcut to fit their preference.
The update addresses the annoying feature of the console that requires users to push the physical Reset button every time they switch games or load a suspend point. Despite its old charm, the console is a source of annoyance for users who want faster access to their games.
The only downside to this hack is that it voids the gadget's warranty. But having the update makes the NES Mini more versatile.
Earlier this month, hackers found a way to house more games in the console beyond its 30 built-in offerings. Russian hacker named Madmonkey unveiled instructions on how to add more games to Nintendo's much sought after device. The instructions remain available on the Reddit thread.
The very elusive NES Classic gaming console is back at several brick-and-store and online retailers. This week promises a good one for stock as more supplies come in. However, some stores are only selling limited quantities.
