Mazda Miata MX-5 RF 2017 Review: The Best Just Got Better!

The Mazda Miata MX-5 RF 2017 is a sweet ride! Already one of the best-selling sports cars out there, Mazda really outdid itself with this year's RF!

Pros and Features. The MX-5 is Mazda's flagship sports car. It is the epitome of the brand's driver-focused philosophy. It is a complete stand-out despite being so tiny. While this year's engine didn't get faster, the body did get lighter, making it even more of a joy to drive.

The best thing about this best-selling sports car is its surprising fuel efficiency. While it does pack a thirsty 2.0-liter engine, it is a very cheap run considering that it is a sports car giving 50mpg on a gentle drive, 40mpg everywhere else.

The Miata is extremely fun to drive around turns. The new RF power-folding hardtop model is incredibly sexy! The Miata has world-class handling and an easy-folding soft top is also a plus.

Cons. The MX-5 has a noisy cabin in soft-top models. It also has limited active safety features. In addition, there is an odd hump in the passenger floor of the front seat.

What's New? The Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is beyond incredible. When the fourth-generation Mazda Miata debuted last year, everyone was left wondering what the Japanese automobile manufacturer would come up with next. The Miata Retractable Fastback (RF) was everything everyone was waiting for, but even better.

Models. The 2017 MX-5 comes in two models: Club and Grand Touring. Both models are Retractable Fastbacks.

The Club features LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights. It also has an aluminum hood and trunk lid, front air dam, rear lip spoiler, and a solar-control/tinted windshield. Under the hood, it has a SKYACTIV-g 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque.

The Miata Club also has climate-control options, cruise control, and a remote keyless with a panic mode for MT. Mazda's Advanced Keyless Entry is also available, as well as a push button ignition. The MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system and other tech feature also come with it.

The Grand Touring has automatic LED headlights, as well as LED taillights and daytime running lights. It also has an aluminum hood and trunk lid and all of the other features as the Club. The Grand Touring also has the same engine.

Verdict. This sports car is tiny and incredibly fun to drive. This year's RF just made it an even sweeter deal. If last year's newly redesigned best-selling Mazda Miata wasn't good enough, this year's MX-5 RF is better than good!
