It seems that another leaked Federal Communications Commission (FCC) application is dropping hints on what Apple is currently working on. An alleged FCC filing reveals the Cupertino-based company is awaiting the approval of the new "wireless device" it is developing.
Prior to full production, the U.S. requires all new devices which utilize communication technologies like the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC to acquire approval from FCC. Despite confidentiality of reports, the FCC filing of Apple for its new unnamed product marked "wireless device" has sneaked out again, revealing some details of what the company has on its working table.
Looking at the report posted on the official FCC website, the application was filed on January 4. The posting also specified that the application was granted authorization on January 20.
There are no concrete details to reveal the identity of the unnamed wireless device. The report only mentioned that the equipment class of the device is "Part 15 Low Power Communication Device Transmitter" and has a frequency range of 13.56 MHZ.
According to MacRumors, the new FCC filing shows a device which seems like an improvement of a similar device mentioned in another FCC report way back in September 2016. Both reports unveil a similar design of the two devices but the older report shows the device carries a different model number A1844.
The publication speculates that the wireless device could be something that would not take center stage. It could possibly be a component that would be utilized in the retail stores of Apple. The wireless device might be an equipment for customer iOS devices, or simply just a product display component.
Furthermore, based on the fact that it was specified that the regulatory information was embedded on the back plate of the wireless device, this suggests that the device would not be a consumer-facing product.
