The 2018 Ford Mustang Convertible Similarly Looks A Lot Like The Hardtop Coupe Except It For Its Missing Roof

After unveiling the Ford Mustang coupe during the Detroit Motor Show, the roofless sibling soon followed, 3 days after. Making its unofficial debut, Ford recently released images of the 2018 Mustang Convertible along with its updates and minor upgrades.

The resemblance between the two Ford coupe is uncanny, except for the fact the one sports a collapsing roof.  Unlike its older sibling that had a noisy launch, this drop top coupe seemingly has a rather low-key unveiling.

The facelifted coupe has the same styling updates as the hardtop one. Both have a brand new front-end design paired with smaller, angled headlights encompassing heritage-laced strips of LED daytime running lights, a lower hood, and a new grille shape, as reported by Digital Trends. Also, new LED tail lamps and refreshed rear bumper completes the exterior tweaks to the 2018 Ford Mustang Convertible.

Speaking of tweaks, Ford's new Mustang lineup will not include an aspirated 3.7-liter V-6 engine, despite the company having utilized the V-6 engine for the Mustang models between 1987 and 1993. The 2018 convertible instead will be packed with the same 2 engine options as the hardtop.

The 2018 Ford Mustang Convertible will be packed with either a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder or a 5-liter V-8 engine. The new 10-speed automatic transmission usually found housed in the Ford Raptor and Chevy Camaro and developed together with GM, is also another variant of the Mustang lineup. However, the six-speed manual carries have remained unchanged.

Further, the facelifted vehicle is equipped with an adaptive suspension, MagneRide. This is an available magnetorheological adaptive damping system, a technology previously available on the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R. This technology is available for both mustang variants.

When it comes to technology, the 2018 Ford Mustang Convertible comes with a fully digital instrument panel, the first time ever in the lineup. An optional 12-inch LCD unit can be viewed in 3 separate ways according to the 3 driving modes: normal, track, and sport.

An additional safety feature has also been packed with the droptop coupe, the Pre-Collision Assist. Lastly, a variable active exhaust keeps things quiet even at lower rpm. But this can amp up the sound levels due to the valves opening under heavier throttle applications, according to CarAndDriver

The 2018 Ford Mustang Convertible is scheduled to arrive by Fall 2017. But pricing is yet to be officially announced by the company.
