Car manufacturers Ford, Honda and Toyota have confirmed their additional recall list for units sold with defective Takata airbags. Apparently, a significant number for a recall is expected to extend until 2019 and if you happened to own one, you may want to have your passenger front airbag replaced too. Although millions of Takata airbags have been recalled, the three automakers are expected to continue recalling from the affected units on their list. This week, Ford has enlisted additional 654,695 vehicles to the recall list, covering units in the U.S. alone.

Not all models require the recall. The 2005-2009 and 2012 models of Ford Mustang, 2005-2006 Ford GT, 2007-2009 Ford Ranger, 2006-2009 and 2012 Ford Fusion, and the 2007-2009 Ford Edge units were listed on the recall list. Also added in the list of affected vehicles are the 2006-2009 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ, 2007-2009 Lincoln MKX, and 2006-2009 Mercury Milan.

Meanwhile, Honda has also announced to recall about 1.29 million units. The affected models include the 2005-2006 Acura MDX, 2005-2011 Honda CR-V, 2005-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2012 Acura RL, 2005-2012 Honda Insight, 2006-2011 Honda Civic, 2006-2012 Honda Ridgeline, 2007-2012 Honda Fit, 2008-2012 Honda Accord, 2009-2012 Acura TSX, 2010-2012 Honda Crosstour, 2010-2012 Honda Insight, 2011-2012 Acura TSX Wagon, and 2012 Honda FCX Clarity.

According to U.S. regulators, the total number of airbags to be recalled is estimated to be around 35-40 million units. The recall is targeted to be completed by the end of 2019. Models at the highest risk are now being prioritized in the recall list, Motortrend reported.

Aside from the three automakers, there are other 16 car makers who have also issued the recall list for Takata airbags. The defect resulted from the use of ammonium nitrate-based propellant without using a chemical drying agent. The alleged faulty airbag could result to an explosion, which may injure or even kill the passenger. As of press time, there have been 11 deaths and around 180 cases injured by the faulty airbag, Consumer Reports has noted.
