Nintendo Switch Review: Three Issues Nintendo Needs To Address To Boost Switch's Preorder Volume

The Nintendo Switch will have its official release on March 3. Consumers can now pre-order the modular console from the official store and retailers such as Gamestop, BestBuy, and Target. Several publications had hands-on experience with the new console. Let's round up early impressions of the console's hardware and its games lineup to know if it is worth getting.

The hybrid home/handheld console set comes with the dock, a pair of Joy-con controllers, wrist wraps, an HDMI cable, and AC adapter. The whole package has a ballpark price of $299.

According to PC Advisor, the price of the Switch's accessories may discourage prospective buyers. For those who want a spare dock, they need to fork out $89 to use the console with another TV. An extra grip for the Joy-Con and an extra pair of Joy-Con controllers will cost $30 and $89, respectively.

Express UK also cites the console's high price tag as another factor that will affect pre-order volume. The website compares the Nintendo Switch's price to the PS4 and Xbox One, which are now cheaper than the former. It criticizes the non-inclusion of the 1-2 Switch in the launch bundle, costing consumers an additional $49.

The second issue facing the handheld console is the battery. Nintendo claims that players can use the Switch for six hours on a single charge. However, for games like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild", playing time will be reduced to only three hours.

The last problem that Nintendo needs to address is the lack of compelling games to show the console's capability. This issue also hounded Nintendo's previous consoles - the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. Though many developers such as Ubisoft and Square have expressed their support for Nintendo Switch, there is no launch bundle or free games that are available. Even the games lineup which includes "I Am Setsuna," "Fast RMX," and "Has Been Heroes" disappointed many.
