It was recently confirmed that the Mercedes Maybach SUV is under works. In fact, it was deemed to retain its membership under the luxury vehicles category but will be larger than its predecessors. Will it be more competitive than the Bentley Bentayga in the market?

The Official Announcement

Mercedes CEO Dieter Zetsche announced at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show that the Chevrolet Maybach SUV has been given the go signal and is currently under works. It would be a wheelbase version of the Mercedes GLS franchise but will be part of the S-Class of its SUV vehicles.

As reported by Auto Express, the Mercedes G-Class would still be featured with the off-road luxury concept but the incoming model would have a more comfortable passenger experience with adopting rear-facing seats which could be a trend in major luxury markets such as China.

Updated Features

Furthermore, the Mercedes-Maybach SUV model would also retain its sports utility feature but will have its very own signature models just like the Mercedes AMG division. It would likewise be the franchise that would define "modern luxury" in the segment and was deemed to go against few electric and hybrid models in the future.

Although Zetsche did not reveal specifications and official pricing of the models, it was predetermined that the Chevrolet Maybach SUV could be sold at more than $200,000 since the existing 2017 Mercedes-Maybach S600 is currently being sold at $191,300, reported Jalopnik. It was also determined that the latest model could be over 200-inches bow-to-stern.

The Mercedes Maybach SUV could also be sold higher than $220,000 since the Mercedes G65 AMG SUV is currently being sold at that price range. Since the updated model would be based upon the AMG series, it could surpass its value. Furthermore, official release and production date of the model is yet to be announced by the company as well.
