The 2017 Toyota Tacoma double cab is a truly spectacular mid-size pickup. It features amazing off-highway capability and unbeatable rugged dependability. It is ideal for adventure seekers and those who need the extra space in the rear.

Pros and Features. The mid-size pickup features rugged off-pavement capability available for all models. It sports an attractive interior that is fitted with easily understood controls. Its composite truck bed has movable tie-down cleats as well as a power outlet. Its fully-loaded model has a top-level V6 which can be perfectly paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The Toyota Tacoma 2017 double cab handles very well on the road. Its V6 engine and automatic transmission have room for improvement. They do not always respond quickly to inputs.

The interior is very attractive. The ride is smooth and quiet. The climate control system inside is very simple and effective. Its seats are accommodating and comfortable as well.

Cons. Its transmission shifting feels sluggish due to its economy-oriented programming. The driving position is also not ideal for taller drivers. Only average drivers will be able to fit comfortably.

The pickup's brakes are too sudden and grabby. It is difficult to slow down smoothly. The car's off-road emphasis gives it a very tall step-up height.

What's New? The 2017 Tacoma model has minor changes. It comes with power actuation of the crew cab's sliding rear window. One highlight is the return of the top-ranking TRD Pro trim level.

Models. The 2017 Tacoma lineup includes the following: the SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and the TRD Pro. The SR is the entry-level model ideal as a work truck. The S5 is a step up which offers more equipment and choices.

The TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road have the same price. They are both very popular and well-equipped models. They are identical on the inside but the TRD Off-Road features hardware differences that make it a better deal.

The Limited model used to have all of the best features. It is flashy and great for the city. The TRD Pro is the top of the line model. It is sporty and is the ultimate off-road machine among the bunch.

Pricing. The Basic model SR 4dr Access Cab 6.1 ft. SB (2.7L 4cyl 6A) has an MSRP of $25,060. The WEll-Equipped model SR5 4dr Acess Cab 4WD 6.1 ft. SB (3.5L 6cyl 6A) has an MSRP of $32,815. The Fully Loaded model TRD Sport 4dr Acess Cab 4WD 6.1 ft. SB (3.5L 6cyl 6M) has an MSRP of $33,330.

Verdict. The 2017 Toyota Tacoma double cab is a very dependable pickup. It has good features and a decent price point. It is impeccable for both city and off-road driving and is a good pickup overall.
