2017 Aston Martin Vanquish S Review: Is it Worth the Upgrade?

The 2017 Aston Martin Vanquish S is a great upgrade from the original Vanquish. It offers the same comfort of the original super-GT with more power and sharper handling.

Vanquish S Specs. The Vanquish S has a V12 GT engine based on the old DB9's VH architecture. Its top features include all carbon-fiber bodywork, extra power, and a brand new chassis.

The Vanquish S has an induction system with a bigger capacity. This helps increase the V12's power from 424kW to 441kW while maintaining peak torque at 630Nm unaltered. The car also features a zero-backlash coupling similar to the DB11 which reduces slack in the driveline. This also allows the eight-speed auto to recalibrate for more incisive and faster gear shifts.

The car features new quad outlets which allow the V12 to sounds even more thunderous when it's fired up. The car's sub-3000 RPM performance might have some car enthusiasts missing the DB11/s subterranean turbo torque. However, the car climaxes at 7000 RPM, which is 350 RPM higher than the DB11 due mainly to its gearbox's efficiency.

The Vanquish S's chassis modifications are really the key transformation points from the Vanquish to the Vanquish S. The new front splitters reduces the front axle's life from 66kg to 18kg.

The car also features improved body control with its more aerodynamic composure. Slight steering movements from left to right will allow the driver to feel the chassis' sharper reflexes. There are also subtle changes in the hydraulically-assisted steering. The driver will be able to feel the slightly stiffer chassis from the extra feedback and slight off-centering.

Overall, the Vanquish S really delivers and is a major step up from the 2012 Vanquish. It maintains all of the usability and suppleness of the original and features more power and attitude.

The Vanquish S is Aston's Martin's current most expensive series-production car. The Aston Martin DB11, the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale, the Ferrari F12, the Mercedes-AMG S65 S Coupe, and the Bentley Continental GT Speed are among the Vanquish S's main rivals. The Vanquish S is priced at $294,950 for the coupe and a cool $312,950 for the Volante.
