New footage of Nintendo's much-anticipated RPG "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" debuted at The Game Awards held last Thursday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Subtitled "Life in Ruins," the gameplay trailer features a vast, truly gorgeous, spectacularly-colored world that also highlights the rivals Link must face off against in his journey.
Footage of the "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wold" has been released previously, and much of it focused on an environment called "the plateau," according to Time. It also centered on Legend of Zelda protagonist Link's everyday adventures, including fighting, cutting down trees, sheild-surfing, climbing and cooking. A 4-minute clip released later on in the night by Nintendo featured actual gameplay by Nintendo Treehousers Nate Bilhdorff and Bill Trinen.
The new footage, however, shows a different side to the game, taking viewers on a visual tour of the massive world. "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" features forests of all colors, bridges made of stone and terraced gardens straight out of medieval storybook town. According to Gamespot, the trailer also has some faceless shots of a character presumed to be the enigmatic Zelda.
The trailer has so far been met with acclaim from avid gaming fans, who see "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" as Nintendo's most heavily anticipated game. According to GQ, the trailer makes it hard to be skeptical of the action-adventure title, despite the fact that many scenes from teasers are cut from the actual game.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is due on the Wii U and upcoming Nintendo Switch sometime in 2017. As is typical in much-awaited games, speculation about the specific date has run wild, with some saying Breath of the Wild will debut together with Nintendo's new console in March. Others suspect a Mario, and not "Legend of Zelda," game will premiere alongside the Switch.
