The film "Don't Breathe" was a hit this summer when it scared up to $151.4 million worldwide. And at a meeting with the select press for the upcoming Blu-Ray/DVD release of "Don't Breathe" on November 29th, Director Fede Alvarez-repped by WME and Anonymous Content-has confirmed that "The Girl in the Spider's Web" will be his next movie project.
Not only did he confirm that but he also revealed, along with producer and co-writer Rodo Sayagues, that there will be a "Don't Breathe" sequel-yet to be confirmed by its respective studio. The revelation was made not long after the rumors come out that Sony Pictures was keen on signing Alvarez. Coming Soon reported.
"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," released in 2011, was based on the first of the three detective novels about journalist Mikael Blomkvist and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. All of which were written by Stieg Larsson, who died in 2004. The new film project-"The Girl in the Spider's Web," would adapt the fourth book in the series written by David Lagercrantz and quickly acquired by Sony, Hollywood reporter.
Alvarez said that they're already putting together the story, referencing the book and the script in the works. He also noted that he and his team seeks to find common ground with Columbia Pictures on their visions for the film. When asked if the film will bring back the original cast, Alvarez was quick to answer that they're not there yet and are still deciding if they are to tell the same story that the studio wants.
"The Girl in the Spider's Web "will adapt the fourth novel written by David Lagercrantz's, to Stieg Larsson's original "Millennium Trilogy: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl who kicked the Hornet's Nest."
It seems that Alvarez's announcement as the director for TGITSW came as no surprise. His works have gained critical and audience acclaim for the tension and shocking sequences it built and his remakes showed that he has more up in his sleeves with his unique style.
Stephen Knight, along with Scott Rudin, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon and Eli Bush will be adapting the novel for the screen. It will be produced by Ole Sondberg and Soren Staermose of the production company Yellow Bird, which earlier produced a trilogy of Swedish films out of the original novels. David Beaubaire will oversee the production for the studio.
