2017 Volkswagen E-Golf Debuts With 50% More Electrical Range, Enough To Choose it Over Tesla Cars

The 2017 Volkswagen E-Golf, the last member of the family to receive Golf tuning, debuts at the Los Angeles Auto Show with 50 percent more electrical range and now can reach 124 miles and enough for buyers to choose it over Tesla cars. Tesla cars may have more than 200 miles of range on them but prices starts at roughly $70,000 while the Volkswagen E-Golf price range is at $30,000 only.

2017 Volkswagen E-Golf: More Powerful and Longer Range

Just a week ago, the new Volkswagen Golf debut and now its 100 percent electrical mode, the e-golf debuts at LA with a more powerful electric motor and a longer range. The power of the new e-golf is at 136hp compare to its predecessor power of 115hp. The maximum torque goes from 270 Nm to 290Nm as reported by CarandDriver.

The 2017 VW e-Golf also features a new lithium-ion 35.8 kWh capacity compared with the previous 24.2 kWh. With this enhancement, the new electric Golf increases up to 50 percent of its range and at full load can reach 124 miles.

That matches the range of the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq and exceeds the ratings for this year's BMW i3 (114 miles) and Nissan Leaf (107 miles). The only mass-priced electric car with more rated range is the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV at 238 miles, according to Green Car Reports. And of course, there's the high priced Tesla model with more than 200 miles but prices start at $70,000.

The 2017 e-Golf features standard 7.2 kW charger. If connected to a conventional outlet can take six hours to have 100 percent charges. In the case of opting for loading into a fast charging, one can charge 80 percent of the battery in one hour.
