Over the weekend, the updated Honda engine for F1 racing was tested out in Malaysia. Pleased with the results, the organization gave the green light for Fernando Alonso to ride the sports car for the Japanese Grand Prix.

According to Motor Sport, the Friday test drive for the vehicle at Sepang pleased the team, which also gained them the approval for Alonso to ride the model in the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix. At first, Honda was reluctant whether the upgrades may be able to deliver a far better performance on the track. With the positive results at hand, the thorough checking of data, Honda announced that Alonso will utilize the vehicle from now on.

The Features

The newly updated Honda engine for F1 racing has a lighter engine block and reviewed exhaust which, in turn, improved the efficiency of the vehicle. As reported by Auto Sport, Honda spent one engine development token on the engine block an another for the new lightweight exhaust.

Penalty Charges

As Alonso roared the beast to life, the spec power unit for the upcoming race in Japan was recorded to have penalties of 45 grid places for component changes. In fact, the driver will use such for the rest of the season.

His teammate, Jenson Button, will still ride the old spec engine in the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix. However, Alonso will be using the updated engine for the F1 racing. However, Button may be able to use the updated version until the United States Grand Prix.
